Trapani Airport
Located approximately 15 km south of Trapani, Trapani Airport is halfway between Marsala and Trapani. The airport was first built in the 1960s with connections to Pantelleria, Tunisia and Palermo but was re-launched in 2003, courtesy of the Province of Trapani, after a long era of inactivity in the airport. Apart from being utilized for military use, the airport is among the 5 civil airports in Sicily. It is also an opening to the whole province of Trapani and provides access channel to western Sicily. Trapani Airport is closed between 0030 hours and 0400 hours local time.
Passenger StatisticsOver the years, the number of passengers in transit has grown steadily. The airport saw 1,069528 passengers in 2009 and 1,682,991 passengers in 2010 fly through it. With 918,027 national passengers and 550,769 international passengers, Trapani Airport became the third busiest airport in Sicily in 2011 with a total of 1,470,508 passengers.
Airlines and destinationsTrapani airport works with a couple of fantastic airlines to fly its passengers to their destinations. Ryanair, being the main airline, connects flights from Trapani Airport to various destinations; Bologna, Cagliari, Beauvais, Brussels, Parma and so much more. The airline also offers seasonal flights to Ancona, Eindhoven, Valencia, Billund, London, Tampere and many others.
Meridiana Fly has flights to Pantelleria while Alitalia airline conducts seasonal flights from the airport to Rome and Fiumicino. Air One, a leading airline, offers seasonal flights to Milan and Malpensa.
TerminalsDuring some airport renovations in 2009, the holding area has been improved with internal area expansions and levels of operations and security improved. The departure area is now completely in the first floor and boarding gates have now increased to eight with three for international flights and five for home flights. There is allocation for Food and beverage and retail stores of approximately 800 square meters on the first floor.
Local TransportationBus transport serves best from Trapani Airport with a good number of buses from various companies availing their services. These companies are Salvatore Lumia, Azienda Siciliana Transporti, Terravision and Autoservizi Salemi. Depending on the company, the buses connect passengers from the airport to cities as Palermo, Trapani, Sciacca, Porto Empedocle, Realmonte, Ribera, Paceco, Siculiana and so many more. If it’s by car, Trapani Airport is easily reachable and connected to many attractions through the provincial road network that is about 15 km from both Marsala and Trapani. The road network is also 23 km 23 km from Erice vetta and from San Vito lo Capo, it’s 50km.
Car parkingThe airport car parking is accessible by walkways. It offers 658 spaces for both long-term and short-term parking needs. Payments for parking are done in cash at the ATMs at the exit of the arrival halls and ATM or credit card at the Airstage ticket counter. Both the modes of payments are made before you reach the exit. 18 spaces, just outside the car park, are reserved for free parking for persons with disabilities. Parking fee is free for a car parked for up to 15 minutes. However, a fee of € 3,50 is charged for a car parked for 1 hour to € 13,00 for a car parked for 24 hours. A car parked for 4 days is charged € 34,00 and € 7,50 for each subsequent day.
